The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new. ~Rajneesh

just another happy day

I noticed a few differences between my sweetie and me before we settle down for the night. I documented them in my mind, and here it is in writing:

(Happenings between 6.30pm – dreamland).

Sweetie:

Messes around with laptop/accounts/calculator/spreadsheet.
Dinner.
Messes around with laptop/accounts/calculator/spreadsheet.
Drinks orange juice.
Gets comfortable on the bed.
Watches TV.
Ahh…sleep.

Me:

Sweep the rooms.
Bath.
Sort out today`s laundry.
Put clothes into the washing machine.
Clean the rooms.
Dinner.
Dry clothes.
Fold clothes.
Decide what to wear for work the next day.
Decide what sweetie should wear the next day.
Iron my clothes.
Iron sweetie`s clothes.
Give sweetie a glass of orange juice.
Take the glass from sweetie.
Wash the glass.
Check the locks downstairs.
Boil water.
Pour warm water inside water bottle.
Pour warm water inside water jug.
Turn off the lights in the kitchen.
Re-check the locks downstairs.
Take water bottle upstairs to room.
Lock the rooms.
Wash face.
Brush teeth.
Comb hair.
Check the locks in the room.
Hang out sweetie`s clothes outside his wardrobe closet.
Re-check the locks in the room.
Pass warm water to sweetie.
Drink warm water.
Switch off the lights.
Re-re-check the locks in the room.
Plop down into the bed.
Get up again.
Charge sweetie’s phone.
On the bed again.
Wish sweetie goodnight.
Realize sweetie is already in dreamland.
Turn off the TV.
Set alarm.
Sleep.
Cannot sleep.
Think of the all the stuff needed to be done before moving into the new condo.
Try to decide on the color theme for the master bedroom.
Re-check alarm time.
Darn!
Get up again.
Call mom. Assure her everything is fine and dandy.
Call sis. Was assured everything is fine and dandy.
Bed again.
Close eyes.
Wish tomorrow was a weekend.
Look at time.
Darn! What happened to my resolution to make it an early night today?
Try to sleep.
Finally, bliss.

Yup. That about covers it all. Just another happy day in my life.

I've taken to pretending I cannot accomplish tasks, like heavy lifting and fixing of things, just so he'll have more to offer in the way of work. OR, even more conniving, I start them in front of him and do them wrong intentionally, which drives him nuts and then he takes over. However, the inability to sleep and the brain not willing to sleep is something else entirely. I find that hot baths help relax me before bed.

Do I have to be labeled a feminist to say that this just ain't fair? My mom goes through the same thing every night!

I'm NOT a feminist...I'm a realist.

My dad's cool...it's just a shame that woman still have to be the wife AND the mom.

However, my mom says she loves to do it all for my dad, so...bless her heart...
