The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new. ~Rajneesh

good advice to parents

Getting down on all fours and imitating a rhinoceros stops babies from crying. (Put an empty cigarette pack on your nose for a horn and make loud "snort" noises.) I don't know why parents don't do this more often. Usually it makes the kid laugh. Sometimes it sends him into shock. Either way it quiets him down. If you're a parent, acting like a rhino has another advantage. Keep it up until the kid is a teenager and he definitely won't have his friends hanging around your house all the time.

I believe that my son would hog-tie that rhino-adult in 9 seconds flat. Then, as the rhino-adult lay looking from his or her prostrate position, he would rip off the cigarette pack horn and have a victory smoke.

Since I have no children myself, I can only muse on your observations and wonder. Watching "Nanny 911" makes me support the notion that locking children in closets can't be all that bad. Surely the trauma could be worked out in therapy at a later date?

This method does, in fact, generally work. However, it takes several minutes and lots of effort, so I prefer to just run away when baby is crying. Sort of the whole "If a tree falls, with no one to hear it..bla de bla."
