memories - the tree
Growing up, I was (and I am saying this quite proudly) quite a mischievous girl. I loved to explore nature. I stayed with my grandparents until I was about 5 and half years old. Since they were aged, my grandparents used to take afternoon naps everyday. Their nap time was my complete freedom time.Their home was in a quite, family occupied and safe neighborhood. And 20 years ago, people do not worry much about their kids playing in front of their houses, or embarking on an adventure around the neighborhood.
Sometimes, my cousin was not able to visit me. So, I was left to amuse myself. There was (or still is??) a huge, rambutan tree, surrounded by clean, soft sand in their garden. My days revolved around that tree. I used to sit on the branches and daydream the days away. Sometimes I made up stories and acted out the various characters in my stories. The tree too had a part to play; as my palace :)
That tree was my second home. Today, as I prepare to move in into our own home, I keep thinking of the tree. It listened to a young girl’s fantasy, dreams and complaints. It also holds many of my secrets.
I never named it. It was simply my tree. Today, I miss it.

I had a rambutan tree at my grandpa's place too when I was young. The tree was tall and no way for me to reach the branches but I remember playing safely underneath it, and having it in my childhood drawings.
The tree, being so strong and encompassing, is like a guardian spreading it's wings to protect all who lives in its vicinity ;)
Miss it? Make it come alive. Find a similar tree, take a photo of it, and hang it in your house.. for your memory.
Of, you can even grow a plant, or even a bonsai 'tree' . Will be cute..
The next time you buy a landed prop, plant a rambutan tree.. ur children need to experience your climb! :P

I loved the trees when i was younger too. They used to give me shade when I was tired of the sun. I used to love climbing trees - I used to do it to escape (if I remember correct)

I used to clib this huge Frangipanni tree (which had 3 seat-like spots facing each other)when I was abt 6...I loved that tree like crazy...cos that's where I used to go with 2 other friends to just sit and talk abt almost anything...we had a great time there...it was long long time ago...I miss it too..
Keshi.
Lovely story.
I used to have a similar tree at my grandmas - it was a lilac and though I could not sit in it I would make a den beneath it. Everytime I smell lilac it reminds me of holidays at grandma's house :)
